Japan Climate Action Summit 2020, 13 October
Japan Climate Initiative (JCI) hosted “Japan Climate Action Summit 2020 (JCAS2020)” on October 13, 2020 with 1500 participants from businesses, investors, govt leaders, religious groups, universities etc..
The deepening of the climate crisis has become clear as seen in forest fires caused by abnormal heat waves, torrential rains and floods occurring frequently all over the world. Green Recovery that aims to achieve both recovery from the COVID-19 crisis and decarbonization has been underway in each country. JCAS2020 was held as a place to share the global trend of overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and climate crisis, pioneering experiences of Japanese companies and local governments with others, and enhance the efforts of non-state actors toward COP26 to be held in November next year.
We welcomed Nigel Topping, who leads the global campaign “Race to Zero” as the High-Level Champion for Climate Action of COP26, Dr. Seita Emori from National Institute for Environmental Studies and top leaders from Japanese companies and local governments as guest speakers. We also received video messages from Dr. John Murton, Special Envoy of the UK COP26 and Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and Bloomberg LP.
